Internet marketing has become so popular today companies who never dreamed about selling products or services online have entered into the game to try and get a piece of that huge pie. Luckily for my company they are doing a terrible job! The problem with the large corporations getting into search engine optimization is they simply cannot provide the customer service or actual attention to details on their project as the smaller SEO companies can.
Main Differences:
Time: If you have tried to get your website to the top of the search engine you should know that is it not something that will happen over night. To grab the entire search volume you have to concentrate on the 3 major search engines (Google, Yahoo & Bing) which means you cannot just focus on backlinks, content writing or onsite optimization; you need to appease all 3 search engines and do a combination. The amount of time we put into our client’s SEO campaign cannot be matched by a large company who is trying to sell a cheap package to a large audience. They will not get the results (ranking on the first page for several keywords) their client’s think they are paying for. Everyone wants to get to the top but there are only 10 listings. It makes sense that the guys who are putting more into their SEO campaign will get more out of it.
Knowledge: Who do you think will do a better job at SEO: The guys who have had to make a living off of it or the large companies who have seen the rise in money in the industry and have added search engine optimization to their bag of tricks? Since Google has not come out and identified what is in their some 200 elements of their ranking algorithm, SEO professionals learn through trial and error. Sure there are books out there that claim to teach you how to do SEO and I’ve read my fair share of them and I’ve found that most are the basics and all are very similar.
My point here is a company that tries to add SEO to their services has not put in the time to figure out techniques that actually get a site to the top of the SERP’s. With the prices they are charging for SEO they cannot afford to bring someone in who has the knowledge to work and train the other staff.
Results: If you are looking to work with a SEO company you will want to make sure you find a company that can show your projects they have worked on and will show your their results. If a company (big or small) cannot provide you the results of a project they’ve worked on it is time to move on. My company has taken over several accounts from these larger companies because they could not produce the results the client was looking for.
Hopefully after reading this you will have a better understanding of what to look for in a SEO company. Maybe you like the price the Large corporations can offer but I am just warning you they cannot provide the time, knowledge or results a small SEO company can.
